The summer finale of ABC's drama series "The Fosters" ended on a happy note, with Callie (Maia Mitchell) finally becoming a legit member of the family. For the next half of season 3, co-creator Peter Paige has revealed tidbits on what viewers to expect.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Paige touched on the formality of Callie's adoption and her big moment at the courthouse when she became some sort of advocate for the rights of all foster kids. He said that it was a big decision for the creative team to approve the adoption now, as they could not "drag the story out" for long. This was also a pivotal moment to the teenager's life, as she transforms from being "reactive" to proactive."

"We have to have faith that she's a really compelling character... whether or not she's been officially adopted into the family. It's time to make her a proactive character now, to have her own her strength and have some control over her journey," Paige said.

Paige also shared that when the season returns, viewers will see the change in her. Apparently, she will be turning into an activist and become "a reluctant champion" for the rest of the foster kids. She will even create an app for the cause.

As for the other characters, the co-creator was excited to announce that they are planning some nice storylines for Jesus (Noah Centineo), who returned from boarding school in the finale, and Mariana (Cierra Ramirez). He said that Jesus would be a great contrast to the other Foster boys.

"Brandon is such a pensive young man and Jude is such an old soul that it's nice to have somebody who's a little clueless," Paige stated.

Meanwhile, Jude (Hayden Byerly) would have some pretty tough times for the next season, as he would try to come to terms with Connor's (Gavin MacIntosh) decision to leave for Los Angeles. Paige said season 3 would involve "a bit of an exploration" on technology and the Internet, which may pertain to the long-distance relationship between the two boys.

"The Fosters" is expected to return to ABC Family in early 2016. Cartermatt posits it will air middle of January.
