While some fans are hoping that the upcoming season 5 of "The Fosters" will feature Brandon (David Lambert) and Callie (Maia Mitchell) reuniting romantically, the sweet moments they exhibited in the last few episodes of the series' season 4 were not meant to bring back the two on the romantic level that they once shared.

There is no denying that "The Fosters" season 4 had a good amount of spotlight cast on Callie. After all the tumultuous events in her life the past season, many fans of the character hope that her circumstances will finally take a positive turn in the upcoming season of the Freeform series, preferably with Brandon in her life.

However, in a recent interview, "The Fosters" executive producer Peter Paige shut down the possibility of a Brandon and Callie romantic reunion. While there is no questioning that the link between the two characters is well-loved, their reconnection in the just concluded season is nothing more than a platonic one.

"Yeah. We love their connection and value it very much and wanted to see it again. We had missed it. Their storylines have been so divergent that we felt like it was time to make sure they crossed a little bit more," Paige answered when she was asked by TV Line if the reconnection between Brandon and Callie in the past season was simply meant to re-establish their friendship.

While a romantic reconnection between Brandon and Callie is out of the question in the upcoming season of "The Fosters," it does not mean that the next installment of the series will not explore Callie's romantic involvements. In fact, as Callie and Aaron (Elliot Fletcher) already declared their feelings for each other in the season 4, fans can expect that more of the LGBT romantic connection between Callie and the transgender Aaron will be tackled in "The Fosters" season 5.

"Callie and Aaron have had a strong connection from the beginning. As they start another chapter — from friendship to relationship — we'll see them elate in that move. ... When the labels and stigma all fall away, we see two people who care about each other and are excited to be together," revealed Paige along with fellow executive producer Bradley Bredeweg in an interview with TV Guide.

"The Fosters" will return to Freeform for its season 5 on July 11 at 8 p.m. EDT.
