Although the second season is still ongoing, NBC recently renewed the fantasy comedy series to continue with a third chapter that will be composed of 13 episodes.

The show's second season is currently on a break and will return on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018. For its eighth episode, titled "Leap to Faith," fans are hoping to see how it will pick up where it left off with Janet (D'Arcy Carden) getting tormented by Derek (Jason Mantzoukas) and Jason (Manny Jacinto) and Tahani's (Jameela Jamil) brewing romance.

Fans will also find out if Michael (Ted Danson) chooses to fix his life or not. With the series' twist and turn of events, it remains to be seen where the storyline is leading to. Fortunately, there is a season 3 to figure things out.

In an interview with Den of Geek earlier this month, Kristen Bell, who plays the role of Eleanor, talked about the possibility of a third season. "I just got pitched season 2 and if we get a season 3 because they want to think very, very broad," she said.

The 37-year-old star explained they do not want to be cornered into something they have not really thought out, thus the writers want to think big for the show's third season. "So the concept for the next thousand years of the show – what would it be?'" she continued to say.

Meanwhile, the show's second season is set to end in February next year. However, as NBC already gave the third chapter the green light, the show's writers have enough time to come up with an interesting story arc for the upcoming 13 episodes.

This is assumed to be filmed and edited just in time for autumn. "The Good Place" season 3 is expected to return in September 2018 on NBC.
