"The Good Wife" is currently in the second half of season 7. Fans are staying tuned as the season revolves around Peter's bid for the presidency and Alicia's flirtation with a new investigator, played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

But arlier this month, CBS chief Glenn Geller announced at the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour that the show's creators, Robert and Michelle King, are stepping down from the show after season 7. Many fans thought that the co-creators' exit from the series might signal the end of the CBS hit.

Last week, Julianna Margulies's appearance at the Casting Society of America's third annual Artios Awards fueled more rumors that the show was ending as she told the crowd that she would no longer be working in a few months.

The Kings were being honored at the event, and in a speech Margulies said (via Vulture), "I surprised Robert and Michelle tonight. They didn't know I was going to be here. They think I'm here for them, but I'm unemployed come April, and I think you haven't seen me in a while, at least not in person, so I thought I should show up."

It appears that "The Good Wife" will be losing its lead in season 8, and as of the moment, the series has yet to be renewed for an eighth season. Speaking with TVLine earlier this month, Robert explained that CBS is trying to make deals for the next season, adding that he and Michelle will stay on "in a supervisory role" but the storytelling they have will finish by the end of season 7.

Robert denied that they're ending season 7 by putting Alicia in her grave, as there would be no way for the show to continue after that.

"But to our minds, we have always written with the idea we could end this season a certain way so that it would make it a satisfactory [conclusion to the] series," the co-creator told the website.

As for whether there will be an eighth season or not, Geller said at the TCA that they have not made a decision yet about a pickup.

"It's just January, so we have to determine if there will be another season or not," said Geller.
