Fans have been clamoring to see the return of "The Handmaid's Tale" since its first chapter ended in June. Hulu has heard their viewers' cries as it recently released a short season 2 trailer that gives a glimpse of Offred (Elisabeth Moss).

The teaser only runs for 15 seconds and just shows a handmaid, believes to be Offred, running in a dark alley while holding a flashlight. On her left hand, she is holding her wing hat which might indicate that she is going to leave her role as a handmaid. To recall, in the previous season, Offred was about to get punished after rejecting to kill Ofwarren (Madeline Brewer) by stoning.

Along with the new trailer, Hulu revealed "The Handmaid's Tale" season 2's official synopsis. The new chapter will be focused on Offred's pregnancy. Fans will also see her continuous fight to free her unborn child from the dystopian domination of the Republic of Gilead.

"Gilead is within you," Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd) often said. Viewers have to wait and see if Moss' character and other cast members will be able to battle the regime or they will just surrender to the "dark truth" that has been surrounding them, as Independent cited.

Hulu's original drama is based on Margaret Atwood's 1985 novel of the same name. However, "The Handmaid's Tale" season 2 will see more of a departure from the book's story compared to the first season. The plot of the standalone dystopian novel was featured in the show's first chapter.

The book features a future where fertile women are rare. The United States is also dominated by a revolutionary Christian group that created Gilead. It is known for being an authoritarian and theocratic regime that becomes the novel and the series' main antagonist.

The new trailer's release confirmed that "The Handmaid's Tale" season 2 is now in production. It is expected to be released in April 2018 on Hulu.
