When the "Lord of The Rings" trilogy ended, fans of the books and the movies were saddened, but hearing the news that "The Hobbit" was going to be made surely lightened the blow.  And now that "The Hobbit" trilogy is likewise coming to an end, it's another bittersweet parting with the onscreen version of the beloved characters.

Come this December, "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies" will hit theaters. This will probably be the last goodbye to Peter Jackson's adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth saga. And because of that, actor and musician Billy Boyd, who played Pippin in "LOTR," wrote a special song for the movie. It is titled "The Last Goodbye," which is just so fitting.

The music video for "The Last Goodbye" is out and it's an emotional one. It is a montage of everything that happened in the "LOTR" trilogy and "The Hobbit" trilogy. There are also behind-the-scenes footages included in the video.

This isn't the first composition of Boyd for the film series. He also penned and sang the song "The Edge of Night" for "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King," which is based on Tolkien's poem "A Walking Song." But if there's one common thing about Boyd's musical creations, it is that all of them have a chilling somber tune that can really soften the toughest of hearts. "The Edge of Night" was also used in the trailer of "The Battle of Five Armies."

Entertainment Weekly was able to reach Boyd via email and he shared some interesting details on how he, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens came up with the new song.

"After seeing the film, I went to my room and I started to put down some ideas, and along with Fran and Philippa, we started to sculpt the song we thought the movie needed. A lot of ideas took us to dead ends or we found the tone wasn't just right. I think we discovered very quickly this wasn't just a song to end 'The Battle of the Five Armies' —it was a song to say goodbye to Middle-earth," Boyd said.

"The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies" will hit theaters on Dec. 17. Boyd's new song "The Last Goodbye" will be heard once the credits start rolling.
