A decade ago, "The Incredibles 2" was just a product of wishful thinking but now development for the film is on full throttle, with a release date for the long-awaited sequel already and at long last, locked in.

Pixar just announced that the forthcoming supercharged adventure of the adorable superhero family will land at cinemas on Jun. 21, 2019. That is 15 years after the first movie came out. Upon the announcement, some fans on social media lamented the gruelling wait.

Brad Bird, who directed the 2004 animated hit, will helm the follow-up. He is also in charge of writing the script for the film. Rumor has it that he is close to completing it. Unfortunately, details about the plot are scarce.

The last time Bird talked about the development of "The Incredibles 2" was last month during an interview with Collider. There, he said that the story arc for the movie is already set.

"I'm probably three-quarters through the script, first pass through the script, but we're already boarding parts of it. I've got a lot of people that worked on the first one working on it, so we're all having a good time with it," he explained.

"So we're trying to keep it focused in the area that our film was, which was a little bit more about characters and relationships and stuff like that, and see where that takes us," he went on to say.

"The Incredibles 2" serves as the final movie in the foreseeable lineup of Pixar. "Cars 3" will be released on June 16, 2017 while "Toy Story 4" is slated for June 15, 2018. Fans will be treated with "The Good Dinosaur" releasing on Nov. 25, 2015 and "Finding Dory" on June 17, 2016 before the sequel.

There haven't been many concrete details about what the film will be all about. While it is understandable, considering that there are four more years to go before it hits the big screen, there are speculations that baby Jack-Jack will be on villainous track in the movie.
