It's been more than a decade since the Parr family was first introduced on the silver screen via Pixar Studio's "The Incredibles." After much waiting, the highly anticipated sequel for the blockbuster hit animation is finally coming, and it is expected to come out next year.

According to The Christian Times, one of the main reasons why it took director Brad Bird more than a decade before deciding to release the sequel to the successful animated film is the conceptualization of the best story.

"I would like to think that I have several good ideas that could be incorporated into a next 'Incredibles,' but I don't have a whole movie yet, and the last thing I want to do is do it just because it would open big, or something like that," the director said in a 2011 interview with Movies.com.

Based on the interview, Bird needed to come up with the best plot to match or even surpass the first one.

The original movie, first released back in 2006, features the lives of a superhero family who has decided to live discreetly in spite of their supernatural powers. But after Bob, the patriarch of the family who was formerly known as Mr. Incredible, is kidnapped by his former fan Buddy Pine — who turned himself into a new supervillain called Syndrome — his wife Helen and their children Violet and Dash have no other choice but to use their superpowers to rescue him. Ultimately, the youngest Parr baby named Jack Jack shows his superpowers as well.

The film earned two Oscar Awards during the 77th Academy Awards, including the Best Animated Feature and Best Sound Editing.

If rumors about the sequel turn out to be accurate, then Helen and Bob will finally hang their Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl costumes for the last time, and quit being superheroes. That is why the story will allegedly focus on the two Incredible sons Dash and Jack Jack. Also, rumors claim that Syndrome will be back, and he will team up with a new supervillain to fight the family.

"The Incredibles 2" is expected to come out in summer 2016.
