Andy Serkis, motion and voice actor for Supreme Leader Snoke, has shed some light to the dark side overlord's origins, as the actor has revealed that his backstory has finally been added to "Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi."

The 53-year-old actor has indicated this in some of his most recent interviews regarding the role. He has also reportedly dropped some hints about the character's past. Serkis told Entertainment Weekly that Snoke is indeed a real and living being and not just a holographic projection of the dark side of the force. The actor further explained that in actuality, Snoke is a nine-foot-tall alien of ancient origins.

Apparently, Snoke had been gravely injured in the past, causing his body to be disfigured and rendering him chair-ridden and immobile, with his infirmity building up his rage as a fuel for the dark side. This could also explain why Snoke has only appeared as a giant hologram in "Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens" to be able to issue orders to his commanders.

Serkis has also described Snoke's lust for vengeance as his motivation against the Jedi and their allies, explaining that "The thing about Snoke is that he is extremely strong with the Force, the dark side of the Force. He's terribly powerful, of course. But he is also a very vulnerable and wounded character. He has suffered and he has suffered injury. The way that his malevolence comes out is in reaction to that. His hatred of the Resistance is fueled by what's happened to him personally."

Before this revelation, some novels for the "Star Wars" franchise have suggested that Snoke is also a malevolent being trapped in the Unknown Regions of the galaxy, watching it from afar. Speculations have also arisen that Snoke was kept alive and discovered by Emperor Palpatine a.k.a. Darth Sidious, the main antagonist of the original trilogy back in 1977, and that Snoke is one of the contingency plans of Palpatine should his Empire fall.
