'The Last Kingdom' season 2 spoilers: King Alfred finds out about Aethelflaed's ransom

A preview of "The Last Kingdom" season 2 BBC Two

King Alfred (David Dawson) will deal with the disappearance of his daughter Aethelflaed (Millie Brady) in episode 8 of "The Last Kingdom."

In the previous episode of the British television series, Aethelred (Toby Regbo) and the Saxons victoriously reclaimed London. During their battle, Aethelflaed came with them but stayed at a safe distance. However, Aethelred and the Saxons still failed when their enemy kidnapped Aethelflaed. Although the Northmen have no reason to kill Aethelflaed, King Aldred is worried about the fate of his daughter.

In episode 8 of "The Last Kingdom," the situation will become even more complicated.

The official synopsis for the upcoming episode reveals that King Alfred is going to be informed of the ransom price in exchange for her daughter. The Northmen also reveal the possible outcome if the Wessex does not pay the amount demanded to free Aethelflaed. With this, King Alfred is caught in a dilemma, where he may need to jeopardize the situation of his kingdom.

The rest of the men will attempt to join forces in order to save Aethelflaed. The summary reveals that Uhtred (Alexander Dreymon) will think on his feet in order to save the princess and at the same time save Wessex. On the other hand, Odda the Elder (Simon Kunz) will risk everything for the kingdom by making a deal with an unusual ally.

It is not expected to be an easy path, as Gisela (Peri Baumeister) and Uhtred will also think about a circumstance in which they are the enemies of King Alfred instead of allies.

The summary also teases that there will be "passion, heartbreak, and treachery" during a devastating showdown at Beamfleot. If Uhtred survives the fight, will he be able to reclaim his ancestral land?

"The Last Kingdom" season 2 episode 8 airs on Thursday, May 4, at 9 p.m. EDT on BBC Two.
