With "The Last of Us 2" still unconfirmed, the voice actress of the iconic Ellie, Ashley Johnson, has expressed her desire to join the new game, provided that the story continues from where the first game left off instead of starting an entirely new cast of characters.

According to Game Rant, the actress from California has been pretty familiar with the video game industry, more so after her time with Naughty Dog. After all, she gave voices to some characters in "Minecraft: Story Mode," "The Witness," "LEGO Marvel's Avengers," and more, after she was done with her role as Ellie. Johnson said that as long as the new "The Last of Us" game features another story for Joel and Ellie, she would totally be down for it.

However, there is still a part of her believing that the first game's story can stand on its own and that it can be left there instead. Nevertheless, should Naughty Dog and Druckmann make another game, she will certainly love to be a part of it.

Game N Guide states that "The Last of Us 2" is not really a far cry from becoming a reality, but as expected, the fans still have mixed opinions as to whether or not a sequel is needed. It seems that the fans are sharing Johnson's sentiment when it comes to bringing back Joel and Ellie in the sequel. Should they come back, they will be expected to continue living in a bleak world, which could lessen the game's value.

As such, some of the fans would want an entirely new set of characters for a revamped "The Last of Us 2" game, hopefully bringing a brighter tone for the sequel instead. The first game's ambiguous ending is something fans can accept without any complaints, but bringing them back for another game can make the situation more complicated.
