Naughty Dog officially confirmed last year that the much-awaited sequel to 2013's survival horror video game "The Last of Us 2" is in the works. Since then, there have been little information from the game developer regarding its new gameplay features and release date. Although, rumors have surfaced that "The Last of Us 2" will launch in 2019, following a recent interview with "TLOU" score composer.

As reported by Segment Next, "The Last of Us" game composer Gustavo Santaolalla had an interview with an Argentinian radio show recently, where he talked about the ongoing development of the project. Santaolalla estimated that his current work for "The Last of Us 2" might be done by 2019.

YouTube's "RobinGaming" picked up Santaolalla's latest statement regarding "The Last of Us 2," believing that the composer could be hinting that Naughty Dog will release the sequel by the time the composer is done with the project in 2019. At one point in the interview, Santaolalla teased that the game will be launched in 2019, although he said this in an unserious tone.

The song composer of "The Last of Us 2" does not have the final say in the game's release date, as Naughty Dog will be the one to decide on that matter once the post-production and finishing works are done. Nonetheless, Santaolalla is free to give his own estimate on when the ongoing development of the sequel will be finished. He stated that projects like "The Last of Us 2" undergoes production phase in at least two years, So far, the composer has only been working on the project for a year, Gaming Bolt reported.

Based on the game composer's estimates, a 2019 release date for "The Last of Us 2" would make sense, given the current status of the project's development. Gaming Bolt also mentioned that Naughty Dog had been busy with the post-production of their recently launched game title "Uncharted: The Lost Legacy." The game studio had only just found the time to start with the full-force production of "The Last of Us 2," thus the earliest expected release of the sequel will be in 2019.

Meanwhile, Naughty Dog released the latest promotional poster for "The Last of Us 2" at this year's Outbreak Day celebration. The image appears as a mere teaser to further excite fans about the sequel, although many have been claiming that the latest poster contains an Easter egg.

No official announcement has been made by Naughty Dog about "The Last of Us 2," although more details are expected to come in the upcoming 2017 PlayStation Experience in December.
