'The Last of Us Part 2' may be released as early as next year

"The Last of Us" had taken the gaming world by storm when it was first released back in 2013. Having received universal acclaim from game critics and gamers alike, "The Last of Us" was praised in its entirety from the story, gameplay, visuals and even to the characters, and it ultimately became one of the best-selling games of that year.

With the way that the first game ended and because of its success, a sequel is definitely expected to happen and it is not a question of "if" but "when." Due to the immense success of the "Last of Us," Naughty Dog had also been put under intense pressure to develop a follow up worthy of the first game.

Naughty Dog already released a teaser trailer for "The Last of Us Part 2" and it features a slightly aged Ellie singing a sad tune, referencing the book of Psalms while playing the guitar and surrounded by several bodies. Joel then arrives as Ellie vows to find and kill every last one of "them." Now, the receiver of such a threat is still a mystery so far, just like the rest of the game. This trailer, along with an announcement made by Naughty Dog via blog post, confirms that a sequel is in fact in production. The release date, however, has yet to be revealed but if the rumors are true, then it may arrive in 2018 next year.

Back in 2013, "The Last of Us" was released for last generation consoles but due to its success, it was remastered and rereleased for PlayStation 4 so when the sequel finally arrives, fans could expect to play it on both last generation and new generation consoles.

Both Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson will reprise their roles as Joel and Ellie, while writer/director Neil Druckmann will be joined by Westworld's Halley Gross. This means fans can expect a lot of exciting things from the sequel.
