Sony has released a new trailer for the upcoming survival horror video game "The Last of Us Part II." The preview shows very brutal scenes that may be hard to watch for many people, including fans of the game series.

The trailer was released by Sony during the Paris Games Week, where the company showcased a slew of contents from its upcoming titles. The video does not feature the two major characters of the game, but rather serves to introduce players to the world where the sequel will take place.

"The Last of Us Part II" takes place five years after the events of the first game, and the trailer gives players a glimpse of how much more brutal the world has become since then. While the first game featured violence that pitted humans against zombies, the new trailers takes it up a level by showing human-on-human brutality.

The preview depicts violence against women, with one woman being hanged and another getting pinned down and attacked with a hammer. There are also arrows that get shot through people's faces and other mutilations.

The strong reactions to the trailer has inevitably led to accusations that Sony featured unnecessarily graphic and disturbing depictions of violence during the event. Due to this, Jim Ryan, the president of Global Sales and Marketing for Sony Interactive Entertainment spoke in defense of the company.

He noted that the company showed an array of different games during the event, including titles meant to be played by children. "'The Last of Us' obviously is a game made by adults to be played by adults," Ryan said. "I should never prejudge this but it will probably be rated '18', I think it's fair to say. And there's that market for those people who like that sort of game."

"The Last of Us Part II" will most likely launch sometime in 2018, and will feature the return of protagonists Ellie and Joel.
