In the next season of "The Last Ship," the U.S. becomes the victim of a cyber-attack and gets assaulted by a fleet of planes during a military ceremony.

The trailer for the upcoming installment showed reporters interviewing commanding officer (CO) Tom Chandler (Eric Dane) at a navy celebration when his satellite feed suddenly gets cut by a malicious hacker. This action baffles navy headquarters as they try to get to the bottom of it. Meanwhile, mysterious enemy planes attack the ceremony and unleash bombs in the area. Officer Mike Slattery (Adam Baldwin) and Chandler immediately shout at everyone to duck for cover as they guide the people around them to safety.

When the assault ends, many people are hurt and the U.S. is put on high alert against future attacks. The footage revealed that the enemy may seemingly be coming from a South American country. A Latin American army is shown in uniform and preparing for a future assault. "I win when Tom Chandler is chanting my name," says a Latin American officer who is yet to be identified and may possibly be the leader of the prior attack.

In the previous season's finale, the USS Nathan James headed by Chandler was able to stop Dr. Paul Vellek's (Peter Weller) from using the miracle seeds to spread his mind-control drug around the world. Sasha Cooper (Bridget Regan), Carlton Burk (Jocko Sims), and the rest of the squad were able to secure the seeds from Vellek's ship.

They encountered a lot of heavy gunfire though but managed to neutralize the enemies and capture Vellek's son Giorgio (Jackson Rathbone). When Vellek saw that his plans had failed, he jumped off the ledge to his imminent death. "I offered you peace, you choose war," he said before he leapt.

"The Last Ship" season 5 is expected to arrive in the summer of 2018.
