Those who are hoping to learn what the Sudden Departure really is (aside from the fact that it has what it takes to end the world) and where it comes from won't get an answer in "The Leftovers" season 3 after all.

Speaking to Yahoo TV, Christopher Eccleston, who plays the role of Rev. Matt Jamison in the hit HBO series, revealed that the killer phenomenon will remain a mystery even after the credits roll in "The Leftovers" season 3.

"We're never going to be giving answers about whether it was a religious thing or whether it was a natural phenomenon. We're not interested in that," the actor said.

"What we're interested in is the journey of the characters and where they end. Where do they end emotionally? Of course, they won't end. They will kind of do what we all do: They'll hit another stage of life, and they'll either go on or they won't," he went on to say.

Showrunner Damon Lindelof, however, emphasized that they won't give fans any clue tell as to what to expect and which mysteries established on the show will be answered in "The Leftovers" season 3.

This is what he underlined during an interview with TV Line when asked about the possible return of Patti (Ann Dowd) in "The Leftovers" season 3 and whether or not viewers will ever know what the Man on Bridge told Kevin (Justin Theroux).

With Kevin seemingly free of his nightmares and his own prison of a mind, it was understood that Patti, who was revealed to be nothing but a figment of his imagination, was flushed down with all these.

However, it is now being implied that fans have not seen the last of Patti after all and she might be in "The Leftovers" season 3.

Lindelof was a bit coy about it when asked about it, but he did urge fans to "pay close attention to the accent the brilliant Bill Camp was using."

"The Leftovers" season 3 premieres sometime next year on HBO.
