'The Legend of Zelda' for Wii U release rumor: Game to be a cross-platform title with Nintendo NX?

Nintendo

Although Nintendo has already confirmed in the past that there will be a Wii U game for the "The Legend of Zelda" franchise, not much is known about the upcoming title. As speculations about the looming release of a new Nintendo gaming system grow, it is now being said that the next "The Legend of Zelda" release will be a cross-platform title, rolling out to both the Wii U and the upcoming NX.

Forbes came up with an outline of the roll-out periods for the upcoming game, based on rough estimates in rumors and speculations. According to the report, the reveals will start as early as next month, with a possible Nintendo NX Direct that will have the company introduce general details about its upcoming gaming system.

Nintendo has said previously that it will start hinting on the NX "in early 2016."

Meanwhile, with the launch of the new gaming system, fans can also expect that the NX will come out with a number of Nintendo titles as its launching games. Outside of a new "Super Mario" title, a "Legend of Zelda" offering is the next best thing as a launching game since these two franchises are the most popular and best-selling Nintendo titles.

MobiPicker says it is highly unlikely that Nintendo will be developing a new "The Legend of Zelda" game solely for the NX. However, a direct port of the "Legend of Zelda" Wii U for the NX is highly plausible. The industry follower adds that it is also likely that Nintendo is targeting an E3 2016 announcement for the cross-platform title.

As for the release dates, the Nintendo NX and the new "The Legend of Zelda" title will reportedly roll out by October or November, after the E3 2016 reveal. The timeline is plausible, as Nintendo will be hoping for its new products to be out in time for the holidays.
