The official trailer for the remake of "The Magnificent Seven" has been released from Sony Pictures and as stated in a report from Cinema Blend the film appears as violent and grim as expected, with several sequences revealing the gunplay shoot-outs that fans can expect to see in the film.

The film is set in the town of Rose Creek where the residents are being constantly raided and attacked by a group of bandits led by Bartholomew Bogue (Peter Sarsgaard). Out of their desperation to save themselves and seek revenge they turn to an outlaw, Sam Chisolm (Denzel Washington). 

Chisolm agrees and begins looking for a few allies, approaching famed gambler Josh Farraday (Chris Pratt) first. The trailer has a short in which Farrady asks Chisolm if the job is difficult to which the latter replies it is nigh impossible, odds that both of them agree to anyway.

According to Cinema Blend, it appears that Washington is taking up the leader role that actor Yul Brenner had in the 1960 original while Chris Pratt's character appears to be of the role Steve McQueen had. Vincent D'Onofrio also appears in a beard and costume that makes him look as distant as possible from his "Daredevil" role of Wilson Fisk.

The film is being helmed by Antoine Fuqua, who won an Academy Award for his work with Denzel Washington in "Training Day." The pair worked together again in "The Equalizer," a film that got average reviews, with most praises going to the Washington's performance.

"The Magnicent Seven" appears to be following the same plot beats of the 1960 original, that itself was a remake of the Japanese film "Seven Samurai" by famed Japanese director Akira Kurosawa. The remake does appear to have its own deviations, with most of the titular seven heroes having more diversity and no longer a rag-tag of All-American cowboys.

"The Magnicent Seven" releases in theaters this Sept. 23.
