The dark and terrifying first look of the TV series "The Mist" offers a psychological thriller, complete with creatures straight from the imagination of Stephen King and the series' cast and crew. As literal mist rolls in, the trailer sets the tone for 10 episodes of fear, survival and desperation.

"The Mist" characters are portrayed by Morgan Spector, Alyssa Sutherland, Gus Birney, Danica Curcic, Okezie Morro, Luke Cosgrove, Darren Pettie, Russell Posner, Dan Butler, Isiah Whitlock Jr. and Frances Conroy. With such a lineup, Spike's TV series "The Mist" looks like it's going to be more than just a novel adaptation as the trailer makes screens look alive with a story straight from a legendary writer.

Although the series is expected to remain faithful to King's novella, it seems that show creator Christian Torpe has other ideas inspired by the 2007 film "The Mist."

"The novella is 200 pages and one location, and we needed to change that to make an ongoing series. But we wanted to remain faithful to the heart of the story," Torpe told Entertainment Weekly. "But we are not just in the mall. We establish different little pressure cookers under the influence of whoever the leader would be in those locations. Each of them come up with different theories or beliefs about what's going on."

The inexplicable aspect of the mist in this TV series will be more than just a breeding ground for unknown and horrifying creatures. It will also trigger the characters' way of how humans would make sense of the situation by creating their own theories and subsequent action plans.

According to reports, "The Mist" will also give a different perspective of sex in that it not only draws out pleasure but also desperation, which is what this series is about.

"The Mist" is scheduled to air on June 22.
