The lives of the Mikaelsons in "The Originals" season 3 are going to be more taxing with a hell-bent vampire on the loose. "Devious Maids" star Matt Cedeño was tapped to play the role of Cortez, a "callous, smart and manipulative vampire" from the clan's past.

"Cortez is someone who was sired by a unique circumstance," executive producer Michael Narducci told TV Line. "He has a very interesting perspective, particularly on Klaus. He's of Klaus' sire line, but he was not sired by Klaus," he added.

Narducci teased that fans should find Cedeño's character "very intriguing," not only for his mysterious origin, which fans should come to know as "The Originals" season 3 progresses, but also because he happens to be "one of the most dangerous folks we've met."

When "The Originals" season 3 returns, the vindictive vampire should be one of the greatest adversaries the Mikaelsons will have to deal with. His true intentions of wanting to make the family, especially Klaus, suffer should also be revealed.

The rest of "The Originals" season 3 should be very problematic for Klaus, who is still reeling away from the death of his new love Cami at the hands of his psycho ex-girlfriend Aurora. Klaus vows to make her pay for what she's done.

While it is unclear if Cami has indeed met her brutal end, Carter Matt hopes that she would return in the form of a vampire, allowing her to help Klaus with the threat brought about by Cortez's menacing entrance.

Cedeño will debut as Cortez in episode 15 of "The Originals" season 3. Apart from his arrival, fans can also look forward to the show's crossover with its parent series "The Vampire Diaries," where Stefan will get to both duel and team up with Klaus.

"The Originals" season 3 will return on Jan. 29 on CW with an episode titled "A Ghost Along the Mississippi."
