The Originals return this Monday for a brand new season (Season 2), promising a lot of new adventure and drama.

The season is expected to pick off from last season's episode finale where the vampire family neutralized Esther (Sonja Sohn). But if for fans who got to watch the season finale, it will be recalled that Klaus (Joseph Morgan) gave Esther an ultimatum – kill herself or live as a vampire.

Klaus gave the ultimatum to her mother after seeing Esther transform into a witch. Esther transformed into a witch after she was served vampire-tainted blood by Rebekah (Claire Holt).

While all that should be answered come the Season 2 of the Originals, director Julie Plec provide a slight hint on what to expect once the second season kicks off.

"I cannot say whether she does or does not [transition into a vampire]," Plec said in an interview with TVline.com. "But I can say that we learn which choice she made in the very first episode back." "The Originals" returns Monday with episode 10, "Gonna Set Your Flag on Fire."

Between the two however, many believe that Esther would eventually choose to be a vampire rather than commit suicide. Further, the storyline would likely include why Esther and Dahlia are afraid of their brother, Mikael (Sebastian Roche).

Speaking of Dahlia, she is said to be taking on a bigger role in season 2 according to co-executive producer Michael Narducci in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter.

"With the long-lost sister Freya and the powerful witch Dahlia taking the first-born children of the Mikaelson bloodline, the big question is will she show up, and will she come for [Hope]."

All this and more await fans this coming Monday when The Originals Season 2 goes on air at 8 p.m. via CW.
