The CW's television series "The Originals" has yet to release an official date for its fifth season. Season 5 will be the final season of the series, and it is expected to air in the middle of 2018.

Executive Producer Julie Plec made an announcement through Twitter that "The Originals" will end with season 5. Plec also wrote, "It's both a gift and a burden to be able to control the ending of a series." Season 4 ended with the main characters apart.

Most fans considered the finale episode as bittersweet and many of them are hoping for a reunion between Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Caroline (Candice King) from "The Vampire Diaries." The long-awaited reunion was confirmed when King posted a picture of her with Morgan at the set of season 5 in Georgia via Instagram.

Fans are devastated after one of the show's producer posted ideas for season 5. Included in the list is a phrase that reads "Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) died." The post was quickly deleted but it did not stop a backlash from longtime viewers. There are still no confirmations if the idea was quashed or adopted into the new season.

People are waiting for new updates or trailers for final season. Many fans are hoping that season 5 will end with a happy ending by having the Mikaelson family be together. The season 5 trailer shown during San Diego Comic-Con this year revealed a teenage c recollecting the history of her family. The trailer ended with Hope signing the painting she finished with blood.

The video also revealed a lot of killing done by Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and his brother Klaus. Fans are also asking if Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) will be the main antagonist in season 5. The trailer also unveiled Marcel telling Elijah to break his promise to his siblings that they will stay away from each other for the sake of Hope's safety. Fans are speculating that Elijah and Marcel will form an alliance to take down Klaus.
