The Pirate Bay, Kickass Torrents shutdown news: Torrentz goes the same way as KAT; Pirate Bay and Extra Torrent next?

The Pirate Bay

Following the closure of Kickass Torrents and the arrest of its owner, Artem Vaulin, a report from Torrent Freak reveals that other torrent websites are starting to shut down as well. According to the report, Torrentz.eu has officially been shut down and it is rumored that The Pirate Bay and Extra Torrent might follow shortly.

This comes as a shocking revelation given that Torrentz is one of the oldest and one of the most globally used websites for torrents. It was founded back in 2003 and ranks 186 around the world against other torrent websites. It is noted as one of the most popular sites with millions of visitors per day.

As stated by Torrent Freak, the website appears normal but when users attempt to use the search engine for torrents the links are no longer available. The site also has a message for visitors and it refers to itself in the past tense, confirming that the site is no longer functional.

"Torrentz was a free, fast and powerful meta-search engine combining results from dozens of search engines," reads the message from the site. At the bottom is a farewell message stating "Torrentz will always love you. Farewell."

Ecumenical News reports that The Pirate Bay and Extra Torrent are likely to follow suit given that they are even more popular than Torrentz. The Pirate Bay in particular has been shut down multiple times in the past but has managed to get back online with the servers being relocated to avoid entanglements with the authorities.

The report also states that because of Kickass Torrents and Torrentz both shutting down, The Pirate Bay and Extra Torrent are expected to see a large increase in traffic. However, this increase in traffic may also cause them to become the main targets of anti-piracy lawsuits which may lead to them shutting down in the near future.
