The Pirate Bay still among top online file-sharing sites

Although The Pirate Bay continues to have a shaky situation, with fluctuating connections and servers being raided by authorities, the website still continues to trudge on as a file-sharing site as other torrent sites close down.

According to Yibada, The Pirate Bay can be considered one of "the last man standing" among torrent sites, as reports of other file-sharing sites closing down have surfaced lately. Recently, it was reported that Popcorn Time has already closed down for good. Meanwhile, it was also speculated that another torrents provider, YIFY, has been down for quite some time now, leading observers to wonder if the site will ever be up again.

The report mentioned that the YIFY site, known to cater to a lot of movie torrents, went down due to a denial of service attack, or DoS. A Reddit thread mentioned easierdot2, apparently a YIFY member, claiming that their team is already working on restoring connections. However, the Redditor also claimed that it would take at least a week for the outage to be resolved.

Meanwhile, Torrent Freak reported that Popcorn Time is undergoing an internal struggle, leading to the site's downtime. Although the update claimed that the site has shut down, it was not mentioned if some of the members will be starting again with the service, or will be doing a new one from scratch.

This leads observers to note that despite the situation, The Pirate Bay is still one of the most used and widely searched torrents sites online. Recently, it was reported that TPB is on top of the ten most used file-sharing sites. The Pirate Bay is followed by Kickass Torrents, with EZTV comng in a close third.

However, with the recent raids on TPB's servers, in addition to the numerous downtimes the site has been undergoing the past few weeks, it is not known if TPB will also suffer the same fate as that of Popcorn Time and YIFY.
