Even with the shutdown of KickAss Torrents (KAT), The Pirate Bay (TPB) is saying that it will continue its services as a torrent website even though the website has been having an intermittent online presence for some time now.

With the closure of some of the biggest torrent sites like KickAss Torrents and Torrentz, most fans are speculating that other big-name websites will follow suit, including the popular The Pirate Bay download site. It doesn't help that TPB has had up-and-down services for some time now.

However, it remains to be seen if TPB will indeed shut down. Although having an intermittent online presence, one advantage that the torrent website has over others is its recent decision to move to the Deep Web. This means that The Pirate Bay, once it solves the problems of its physical servers, will have higher chances of evading anti-piracy authorities even with its torrent services staying up. Indeed, it seems that TPB is enjoying some benefits over KAT's closure since most of the closed-down site's fans have scattered online in trying to switch torrent providers. With KAT's shutdown, torrent search traffic has shifted, making other websites like TPB absorb KAT's users by the millions. The Pirate Bay surged on top of popular torrent websites because of the online traffic shift.

Meanwhile, outside of TPB, other websites continue to close up shop. The latest shutdown occurred for Torrent Hound. According to Torrent Freak, although the website has not enjoyed as much success as TPB and KAT, Torrent Hound still has millions of active users, owing to it being one of the first torrent sites to be put up. Torrent Hound has been in service since 2007.

The shutdown has been a surprising one since there is no indication that Torrent Hound will close up shop. However, a check on its website has users being redirected to other torrent services, indicating that that Torrent Hound has ceased operations entirely.
