Last July, major torrent sites such as Kickass Torrents and Torrentz.eu have been shut down. There have been speculations that Pirate Bay will be next, but the company is positive that they will remain for another 30 years.

The Pirate Bay first launched its torrent system back in 2003. Being one of the greatest sources of torrents, the site was called the "King of Torrents."

It has been number one since 2009, but lost the title in 2015 to Kickass Torrents. Recently, Kickass Torrents and Torrentz.eu were shut down by authorities, which brings The Pirate Bay back on top.

A member of The Pirate Bay team expressed that they are not worried of being shut down, similar to what happened to their co-torrent companies. They claim that Pirate Bay can "easily switch to an alternative" if time comes that their domain becomes the cause of a possible shutdown. The Pirate Bay team also believes that they are not just a domain that provides their users with torrents for them to take advantage of. They represent a movement of culture sharing with a community.

Pirate Bay's Spud17 told Torrent Freak in a previous interview, "TPB is more than just a domain, it's a movement, and taking down one domain will have zero effect on our inalienable right to share culture with our peers."

Spud17 also said that despite the company's flaws and glitches, The Pirate Bay team is positive that they will stay for another 30 years even if technology rapidly changes over time.

Since the recent shutting down of torrent sites, the next big site following The Pirate Bay is ExtraTorrent. It has accumulated heavy traffic since July and has had an increase of visitors of 101 percent. There have also been news that Kickass Torrents is rebuilding itself slowly in the torrent community. Torrent users have stumbled upon mysterious links that bring them back to the Kickass Torrent database where all the files are still stored.
