'The Punisher' release date news: Arrival on Netflix finally announced, new trailer reveals Karen Page

Screengrab from the trailer of "The Punisher" hints at a romantic relationship between "Daredevil's" Karen Page and Frank Castle, a.k.a. The Punisher.YouTube/Netflix

Fans of The Punisher need not punish themselves anymore with waiting, as "The Punisher" on Netflix finally has a release date along with a new official trailer. The upcoming series is to arrive on Netflix on Nov. 17.

The second official trailer for Marvel's "The Punisher" has been uploaded by Neflix on YouTube and has unveiled more of the plot for the upcoming series. As it turns out, there is more to The Punisher's, a.k.a. Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) story, as the trailer states that the US military was using Castle as their rogue hitman before his family was murdered.

Apparently, Castle was a loose end in the shady operation of the military and had to be dispatched. This led to complications, and Castle became The Punisher. Now, he is out to kill whoever is involved with the death of his family, as well as those who betrayed him and wanted him dead.

A surprise tie-in is also shown in the trailer, as the new series has been confirmed to include Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) from "Daredevil," one of Netflix Marvel series, which also had Castle as a mainstay. Karen will apparently be a series regular in "The Punisher" just as she is in "Daredevil," perhaps even more as the trailer shows a potential complicated romance between her and Castle.

It is not sure yet how this will affect Karen's relationship with the Daredevil, a.k.a. Matthew Murdock (Charlie Cox), since she was also his love interest in his own respective Netflix series. That said, it seems by now, fans can assume that Karen has a thing for damaged vigilantes.

Compared to "Daredevil," though, "The Punisher" is significantly darker in tone and theme, as Castle is not the typical non-lethal comic book hero. The Punisher is famous for having no reservations on killing his victims and thinking he is doing the right thing: a more permanent solution to rid the world of crime. As such, Castle will be using a wide selection of guns and explosives to achieve his goals, as well as a more pragmatic philosophy compared to Murdock.

Marvel's "The Punisher" will have 13 episodes and will premiere its first season on the aforementioned date of Nov. 17 on Netflix.
