'The Sims 4' patch 5 brings two basement levels, gets players ready for 'Get to Work'

When "The Sims 4" initially came out in 2014, many sites such as IGN and Gamespot cited that it felt like an empty game with a lot of missing features from past titles. Patches have been introduced to restore what fans have been craving for, and a new patch has arrived on March 26. 

Patch 5 will most notably re-introduce the feature to build basements. Basements, along with swimming pools, was one of the core features of the franchise that was missing when "The Sims 4" initially launched. Now the free patch will allow players to build up to two basement levels. 

With two basement levels, player can build up to six levels for their home. They can also remove the basement ceilings, allowing for larger spaces and more creative designs. According to the game designers, it is even possible to build open-air houses and bunkers. 

Previous patches re-introduced swimming pools, and patch 5 will allow players to add swimming pools in their basements. A pool can be placed adjacent to a basement. This will allow them to create large "fish tank" environments. 

But patch 5 isn't just about basements. It also comes with the new "Installed Content Manager" that works like a mod manager or expansion manager, giving players the option to enable or disable additional content in their game. 

"Story Level Upgrade" and a few graphical interface glitches will be fixed and added as well. Unfortunately for fans of previous games, toddlers are still not being added to the core game play but they have not been ruled out for future patches and expansions. 

All of these additions and changes are in preparation for the upcoming expansion, "The Sims 4: Get to Work," which is scheduled for release in April 2015. The new expansion will allow players to take on different careers, follow ambitions, and even open up businesses.
