Episode 3 of FX's horror drama series "The Strain" will continue in the same vein as the first two episodes, with lots of sinister and ghoulish scenes expected of a Guillermo del Toro classic.

In "Fort Defiance," TV Guide reports that Gus (Miguel Gomez) and Vaun (Stephen McHattie) will attack Eldritch Palmer (Jonathan Hide), the elderly billionaire invalid who will do anything to obtain immortal life. Meanwhile, Eph (Corey Stoll) will struggle to form connections with his son Zach (Max Charles); and Justine Feraldo (Samantha Mathis) will announce her intention to bring the extermination policies to the other boroughs.

Last week, Eph and Nora (Mia Maestro) had finally come up with a new strain of virus that could kill the Strigoi while keeping their human hosts alive. After convincing the newly-turned vampire couple to be test subjects, they immediately started to put the virus on trial and see if it works.

Meanwhile, Abraham (David Bradley) had several flashbacks. He remembered when he was still a young instructor at the University of Vienne in 1965. Eldritch told him the cane of Jusef Sardu that could defeat vampires had been found and brought to Vienna. Abraham agreed to locate it and his search led him to an old pawnshop. The owner, Dr. Dreverhaven (Nigel Bennet), a Nazi doctor who experimented on subjects, showed him the cane. It was already compromised, but Abraham stole it and delivered it to Eldritch.

Eldritch then sent him on a search for the Occido Lumen, a book that could reveal the Strigois' weakness, and the ways on how to defeat them. Abraham was promised a post at the university for full professorship if he could get it. The flashback then touched on Dreverhaven, where it showed him being transformed by Eichorst (Richard Sammel).

In the present time, the billionaire was giving a speech to a crowd of people hoping to get food for their families. Abraham showed up and told him he was close to finding the book, while Fet (Kevin Durand) set up a time bomb to destroy the supply.

Elsewhere, the Master was looking for a new form while Kelly (Natalie Brown) investigated each one of her new brood of undead children. She then had them sniff Zach's coat, telling them to go find him.

"The Strain" airs Sunday at 10 p.m. EST on FX.
