"The Strain" will be returning for a third season later this August and this time, as reported by TV Line, the action and horror will shift over to New York City. Unfortunately, the local government will no longer be handing out any help and the main cast will find themselves fighting entirely on their own with no one out there to help.

"At the beginning of season 3, New York has fallen and the government has given up," explained Max Charles, who plays the character of Zack. Charles made the statement during this year's Saturn Awards. "That leaves the people of New York to fight to save themselves."

The first episode for season 3 is titled "The New York Strong" and the first official trailer, courtesy of Ecumenical News, reveals just how chaotic the battle in New York is going to be as survivors attempt everything they can to avoid the strigoi vampires.

According to the report, season 3 is also going to have only 10 episodes instead of 13, making it shorter than season 1 and season 2. However, with fewer episodes the story will also be more compact and will no longer need unecessary sub-plots to fill in the time, making it more consistent and tightly packed.

The report also reveals the offiical synopsis for season 3 which does not give any insight on what the story might be about. However, it is revealed that the main group will be splintering, indicating that through season 3 the team will be going to different locations after splitting up. Fans speculate the chaos in New York will be the primary cause for them to go their separate ways.

A voice over throughout the trailer also indicates that season 3 would tackle the issue of containing and curing the strain now that it has stared to spread all across the globe. The voice over states that if their efforts fail then the strain will become too spreadout and all hope for curing it will be lost.

"The Strain" season 3 premieres Aug. 28.
