"The Strain" season 3 is getting only 10 episodes, which is enough for creator Guillermo del Toro and writer Carlton Cuse to continue the story of the viral outbreak as it expands its reach.

The two were actually the ones who wanted to cut the episodes from 13 to 10 as it would mean h can go straight to the point without having too many fillers.

That being said, every episode of "The Strain" season 3 will bring the story forward, will be fuller in terms of action and will certainly be more eventful than the previous seasons.

"That is something I fought for and intentionally wanted because it just feels like we can really amp up the story velocity in the third season by making 10 episodes instead of 13," Cuse told the International Business Times.

Although the plot progression will be faster than before, it is important to note that "The Strain" season 3 will slightly avert from the source material. It remains to be seen as to what extent the tweaks will be.

"The Strain" season 3 will begin with New York shaken by the outbreak and war. The battle between the humans and strigoi will be at full blast in the next season.

While that happens, the Master prepares his ultimate plan to destroy all of humanity, subjecting the world in the most intense and most important race against a clock it has ever been in.

In "The Strain" season 3, the whole world will finally realize the serious threat it is under. Solutions on how to defeat the menace are being thrown around.

Ephraim Goodweather (Corey Stoll) will attempt to develop a biological weapon that could wipe out all of the killer creatures while Abraham Setrakian (David Bradley) continues the search for the book that contains information on how to defeat the strigoi.

"The Strain" season 3 premieres Sunday, Aug. 28 at 10 p.m. EDT on FX.
