As revealed in the synopsis of the fourth and final season, nine months have passed since the events of the preceding installment. Within that time, the world gradually fell into darkness until the strigoi finally seized the moment to take over the world.

To note, it was Dr. Ephraim "Eph" Goodweather (Corey Stoll) son's Zach (Max Charles) who triggered the apocalypse. The global nuclear explosion he caused brought forth a seemingly never-ending winter across the globe. In turn, it gave the vampires the opportunity to walk freely whenever they please.

Next season, The Master takes over the body of CEO Eldritch Palmer to establish a totalitarian government. The Partnership, the alliance between The Master and his henchmen, establishes fear that in turn tightens their grasp over humans.

In this new era, humans will fear for their lives. Some who are desperate to survive will opt to work with the vampires, hoping a partnership will keep them from being killed.

Rumor has it The Master is preparing his new vessel. When CEO Palmer's body has served its use, the vampire leader will move onto Zach's body, reports say. This, however, has yet to be confirmed. Hence, fans should take the reports with a grain of salt.

Fans of the horror series can expect to see the main cast of "The Strain," Corey Stoll, David Bradley, Jonathan Hyde, Kevin Durand, Ruta Gedmintas, Miguel Gomez, Richard Sammel, Max Charles, and Rupert Penry-Jones, to reprise their roles for the final season.

"The Strain" season 4 premieres July 16, Sunday, at 10 p.m. EDT on FX.

More updates should arrive soon.
