The sequel to the popular science fiction role-playing game "The Surge" is now in the works and will drop sometime in 2019, following publisher Focus Home Interactive and developer Deck13's renewal of partnership.

According to "The Surge" official Facebook page, users can expect the new installation of the acclaimed multi-platform game to gain a more comprehensive gameplay with loads of new features and extras — a bolder design aesthetics, bloodier combat, and an expanded limb-targeting system.

Adding to the already promising new game features, a forum page by Focus revealed that the game will also be set in a new environment — a much extreme and dilapidated setting with bolder and bigger aesthetic design implemented through Deck13's innovative graphic rendering.

The new limb-targeting system will also play a big part in the enhancement of the game play which will enable players to salvage specific parts of a defeated foe's body.

"The Surge 2 keeps what fans and critics loved about the original while also expanding greatly upon the formula," the developers teased.

"The Surge" franchise was started last year and gained instant popularity with its brutally comprehensive gameplay. It is set in a dystopian world where humans rely on technology and robotics only to be faced with a terrible cost. Its incredibly difficult playing field have also been likened to the "Dark Souls" series famous for its difficult to beat bosses.

The sci fi-fighting game was originally released on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. It garnered rave reviews upon its release and became a cult favorite among players of the "Dark Souls" series.

Game developer Deck13 was also responsible for the game "Lord of the Fallen," an action role-playing video game who shares similarities with "The Surge" franchise.

Other details regarding the exact release date have yet to be announced by Deck13 and Focus Home Interactive.
