Should fans be worried about the fate of "The Vampire Diaries" after The CW decided to move season 7 to a new timeslot?

The network recently announced that the supernatural fantasy drama, along with spin-off series "The Originals," will be moved to a Friday night schedule from its long-time Thursday night timeslot once it returns after the midseason break. Shows moved to Friday nights are normally the ones with dwindling ratings.

"The Vampire Diaries" was hailed as one of the top-rating shows of the network after it premiered in 2009. But since lead actress Nina Dobrev left the series after season 6, the show's ratings dropped by as much as 33 percent in season 7.

Celeb Dirty Laundry reported that one of the series' lead actors Ian Somerhalder is starting to panic because of the sudden schedule changes. According to the report, the actor is worried that the show might meet its end soon.

But rumors around the set mentioned that the other cast members of the show are starting to get tired of Somerhalder's "hogging the limelight" after Dobrev's departure. In a report posted on Australia News Network, the other cast members want Somerhalder fired so Dobrev could return to the series.

However, CDL mentioned that the reports are only exaggerated versions of the on-set drama happening during the filming of "The Vampire Diaries" season 7.

Earlier rumors claimed that Dobrev left the show to get away from Somerhalder, whom she shared a relationship with in the past. But after he dated and eventually married "Twilight" actress Nikki Reed, working with each other reportedly became difficult for the former lovers.

But according to Dobrev, she decided to leave her role as Elena in "The Vampire Diaries" to explore other options in acting. Despite the constant rumors that she will return to the show soon, the actress was said to be firm in her decision to quit the show.

"The Vampire Diaries" starts airing Friday nights in 2016.
