Stefan (Paul Wesley) will do everything to bring Damon (Ian Somerhalder) back. Meanwhile, could Nina Dobrev finally return to the series since it is in its final season?

In the upcoming fifth episode of "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 — titled "Coming Home Was a Mistake" — it seems that Stefan will be crossing the line to save his brother from destruction.

According to the synopsis released by The Futon Critic, "Spiraling down a dangerous path of self-destruction, Damon's latest actions prove he may be beyond the point of return. Unwilling to give up on his brother, Stefan is forced to make a gut-wrenching decision that threatens to change their relationship forever. Elsewhere, Bonnie (Kat Graham) gets advice from Caroline (Candice King) on how to break through to Enzo (Michael Malarkey), while Matt (Zach Roerig) attempts to decipher a mysterious box of messages that he's received. Finally, after tragedy strikes close to home, Stefan and the others are forced to remember what matters most to them."

As seen from the episode promo, Damon will be hunting Stefan and the others, while Stefan will go through extreme measures that will damage his relationship with Damon forever.

Meanwhile, it is possible that Nina Dobrev will be returning to the series soon. Executive producer Julie Plec confirmed in an interview with ET that Dobrev has expressed her eagerness to return to the show.

"She and I have spoken and I know that she 100 percent wants to be there and I, of course, 100 percent want her to be there, and so it just comes down to stupid things like scheduling," explained Plec.

Plec shared that she will finally be able to fulfill the ending that she envisioned for the series with Dobrev now back in the picture.

"I am very excited. We get little hints and teases of her face all through the season. Damon's memories of her play a big part of the season, and I was just looking at a scene yesterday and being able to see her face brought back so much emotion and nostalgia and sweetness. It's lovely to have her in the narrative in the way that she is," added Plec.

"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 airs every Friday at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
