Is Damon in danger in 'The Vampire Diaries' season 8?The CW

Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) will reportedly still be in the possession of a strange and creepy entity when The CW airs the eighth and final season of "The Vampire Diaries" this fall.

Executive producer Julie Plec told Entertainment Weekly that the new evil villain for the upcoming season will continue to put the elder Salvatore brother under its control.

"Damon has unfortunately become a little bit of a servant to an evil who has an opinion on what should happen to people who do bad things," Plec stated. "He's a little bit of a minion at the moment, and we'll have to learn who he's a minion for and why."

While the executive producer did not reveal the identity of the new big bad, speculations claimed that it could be possible to see actress Nina Dobrev portray the role of the evil villain next season.

According to Movie News Guide, there could be a chance to see Dobrev's characters Elena or Katherine used by an ruthless force to lure Damon to follow all of its whim. The actress departed from the show after season 6, but Plec revealed that they are doing everything to bring her back in the show's farewell season.

Meanwhile, actor Matt Donovan revealed that something big is about to happen to his character Matt Donovan next season.

"When Matt comes back to town, it's gonna enrich his character in a way that it's never been in the entire history of the show. Because you just think about Matt being the only human on the show. He's a busboy, this and that, and no family. We're gonna learn that the Donovan family history is also kind of supernatural and crazy," the actor told Melty in an interview.

Since it was revealed that "The 4400" star Joel Gretsch had been tapped to join the show in a mysterious role, speculations claimed that he will portray the role of Matt's long-lost father who will arrive in Mystic Falls next season.

"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 is scheduled to premiere on Friday, Oct. 21.
