It is highly speculated that Nina Dobrev will return to Mystic Falls on "The Vampire Diaries" season 8, but there will be a twist to her character.

According to Buddy TV, Dobrev can return without the need for Bonnie (Kat Graham) to be killed off, that is by becoming the embodiment of the new baddie Sybil.

The new big bad for "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 is an immortal who is tricks and manipulates people into doing what she wants such as murder sprees and brutal carnages mostly to entertain herself.

The publication believes that Dobrev can return as Sybil, who, in turn, takes the form of Elena in order to mess with Damon's (Ian Somerhalder) head.

That way, the show won't have to meddle with the storyline that connects Elena to Bonnie. Fans will remember that unless the latter dies, the former will be in deep sleep.

Bringing Elena back as one form of the cunning Sybil in "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 will leave this storyline untouched and will effectively make fans happy with Dobrev once again making a comeback.

When the actress left the show, she said that she will be willing to take part in the show's final season. While her mind could change, something that executive producer Julie Plec recognizes, this is still the plan at the moment.

"Obviously, things can change throughout time, if the show goes on longer than we expect it to, or if we all collectively decide it would be fun to bring her back earlier, and she wanted to," Plec told TV Line.

"But in my opinion, she was very clear about what she wanted the next step in her life to be, and she's doing a great job of achieving that. So I'm sticking with my side of the plan, which is to bring her back at the very end," she went on to say.

There's no information if "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 will be the show's final. However, some would like to think it already is since Graham and Somerhalder are leaving the show after this upcoming run.

Should it really be the last season, perhaps Dobrev will keep her promise and find her way back to Mystic Falls once again.

"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 premieres Friday, Oct. 21 on The CW.
