Expect a different Elena (Nina Dobrev) when she returns for the eighth and final season of The CW's "The Vampire Diaries." After seasons of being the main heroine of the show, rumors are rife that Dobrev's return as either Elena or Katherine would pose a serious threat for the Salvatorre brothers.

According to a report by Game and Guide, Dobrev could return as the ultimate villain to cap off the eight season run of the successful series.

Meanwhile, a report by HNGN hinted that both Salvatore brothers could possibly die at the end of the series.

However, a Celebrity Dirty Laundry report revealed that Paul Wesley — who plays Stefan — wanted this ending for both his character and Damon (Ian Somerhalder). "I really think [Stefan] should take off his [daylight] ring and die – with Damon. I think that would be the perfect ending," said Wesley.

This was basically the same sentiment of Somerhalder when he was asked about his opinion on how the series should play out the series' swan song.

According to Somerhalder, he wants the brothers to fly to Caribbean, where both Ian and Damon will relax on the beach all night long while enjoying some fine wine. The actor added that as the sun comes up, they can both hug each other and end their long lives by removing their daylight rings and throwing them in the water. The actor ended his version of the show's ending with a playful "poof!"

If this will happen, though, fans who are hoping for a Salvatore crossover in the the fourth season of "The Originals" will be greatly disappointed. Meanwhile, show creator Julie Plec has assured fans that they will get a satisfying end to the show.

"Speaking only for myself, the ideal finale to me is Friday Night Lights, where you have loved and worshipped a show for all these years, you get to come back, celebrate the characters, finish up their journeys, and send everyone out with a feeling of, 'My god I'm so grateful that I got to know these people,'" Plec told Entertainment Weekly.
