Negan has proved to be one of the most mysterious villains in "The Walking Dead" comic books and is soon to be portrayed by actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan in the live-action series on AMC. According to a report from IGN, Negan's unknown history and rise to power will finally be explored in a special spin-off comic book series.

According to the report, Negan's story won't be told in a single one-issue graphic novel. Instead, the story will be spread out and told in the new Image Plus magazine. This magazine line will make its debut in May and the initial 12 issues of the magazine will have four pages dedicated to telling the story of Negan.

This special comic book series will be handled by the same duo that has been working on "The Walking Dead" comics for a decade -- writer Robert Kirkman and artist Charlie Adlard.

By the time Negan appears in the comic books he is already known as the ruthless leader of the group known as the Saviors. Foul-mouthed, brutally violent and constantly seen with his baseball bat Lucille, Negan is responsible for the death of many key characters, including Glenn, who is played by Steven Yeun in the series.

According to a report from Cinema Blend, revealing Negan's backstory could go in one of two different directions. The report points out that if the story is a success then it might make Negan an even more compelling villain than he already is and this may become the basis for the adaptation in the popular TV series.

However, if the mini series fails and is not warmly received by the fans then it might diminish Negan's staying power. The report points out that many classic villains are the ones fans know almost nothing about, such as the Joker (Heath Ledger) in "The Dark Knight."
