Scientists have figured out a way how to survive the zombie apocalypse, particularly the one in "The Walking Dead," and they have even given advice for people on how to not turn up as the titular zombie.

Thankfully, it does not involve leaving behind comatose husbands in hospitals, similar to what Rick Grimes (Abraham Lincoln) has experienced with Lori (Sarah Wayne Callies). Instead, experts revealed that the best place survivors can do to prolong their health in a zombie apocalypse is to find and hide in remote areas. This is because most of the people who will be turning into zombies are the ones in urban locales.

As such, densely-populated areas are the most dangerous, given how many people can quickly turn into hordes of flesh-eating undead. Alexander Alemi, part of the research team who even made a disease proliferation simulation for the scenario, has stated, "I'd love to see a fictional account where most of New York City falls in a day, but upstate New York has a month or so to prepare."

However, a month may be too generous since an outbreak of fast zombies in an area like New York would decimate the city and its population in just 24 hours based on the simulation from Alemi and his team. This program was called disease dynamics simulation and even has an interactive model for the laymen where they can pick a spot in the US as ground zero for the outbreak to see just how fast it will spread.

This interactive model can also be used not just to simulate a fictional disease outbreak but also a real one, such as for viruses or other air or water-borne diseases. Alemi also stated that using zombie outbreaks was quite a good starting point for modelling an outbreak of other diseases since it was quite similar. He explained, "Modeling zombies takes you through a lot of the techniques used to model real diseases, albeit in a fun context."

Rest assured, those living in rural areas and provinces will most likely survive better in the event of a zombie apocalypse, or even other diseases.
