'The Walking Dead' season 6 news: Trailer hints at major plot events

AMC

The midseason trailer for "The Walking Dead" season 6 has launched online and while it teases the arrival of Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), it also hints at several key plot points that will unfold, including what could be the death of a few important characters in the series.

As stated in a report from Cinema Blend, there are shots of Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) wielding a hatchet to fend off the incoming zombie horde. In the original comic books, Rick notably used a hatchet only once and this led to the death of one key character from the Alexandria Safe-Zone: Jessie (Alexandra Breckenridge).

During the midseason finale, Jessie's son started calling out to his mom right as the group was wading through the zombie horde. This would lead to the walkers discovering them hiding in plain sight and attacking Rick's group. In the comics, Jessie was also holding on to Rick's son Carl (Chandler Riggs).

With the walkers dragging Jessie and Carl down, Rick chooses to chop off Jessie's arm in order to free Carl but this allows the walkers to come in and continue eating her, leading to her death. It is very possible that this will occur in the midseason premiere.

Another possible death hinted in the trailer is Glenn's (Steven Yeun). There is one scene in the trailer showcasing Maggie (Lauren Cohan) screaming in agony as she looks on at what is assumed to be someone being killed off. Given that this is the season where Negan is introduced, it may be the scene where Negan brutally kills Glenn.

However, Glenn's death was already given a false-tease throughout the first half of the season and many fans suspect that the show wouldn't be likely to give false hope this late into the season. It is possible that Maggie may be the one killed off instead of Glenn although there is nothing yet to support this theory.

"The Walking Dead" season 6 episode 9 will air Feb. 14.
