'The Walking Dead' season 8 spoilers, rumors: 'The game is afoot,' Lincoln teases

AMC recently wrapped up the seventh season of the zombie-filled horror drama series "The Walking Dead." Unlike the previous installment, the latest season ended on a more hopeful note. With Rick (Andrew Lincoln) waging war on the Saviors, what will happen to their small army in season 8?

It is a given that war is inevitable, and it will most likely arrive in the first few episodes of season 8. Toward the end of the season 7 finale, Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) can be seen commanding a vast numbers of soldiers, prepping them for war. And with their well-stocked arsenal, will they stand a chance against the Saviors? Lincoln seems to believe that all the work Rick did in season 7, making acquaintances, will pay off next season.

"It's been a lot of placing the chess pieces and positioning and introducing key players in this landscape," he told Entertainment Weekly. "The game is afoot, as they say," he added.

Lincoln is no different from fans of the series, excited for what is to come in season 8. According to the actor, he was not aware of the Scavengers twist in the finale, and that he was just as surprised as most fans were.

Showrunner Scott Gimple shared a few details about season 8 to The Hollywood Reporter. He admitted that they will be following Robert Kirkman's comic books, but they will add their own spin to it. More importantly, viewers should expect to see a time jump in the next installment.

He shared, "But I will say there are things that happen in that time jump that are referred to that are super interesting. And thus we might see some of that stuff; it might not be the same sort of jump, or we'll do that two to five years in real time."

"The Walking Dead" will be back with all-new episodes this fall on AMC.

More updates should arrive soon.
