Series creator Robert Kirkman revealed that the much awaited companion show for "The Walking Dead" will not stay as a prequel for so long, and it will eventually catch up with the original post-apocalyptic saga. During the media panel at the South by Southwest conference titled "Creative Activism" held on Saturday, Kirkman shared the plans made for the still untitled spin-off series. 

"It's not going to relate to the comics at all," Kirkman stated. 

The series creator/comics writer also explained that viewers will see what is going on in other parts of the U.S. at the beginning of the post-apocalyptic era. He said that the timeline of the new series will take place a bit earlier than the present "The Walking Dead" TV series, "but I wouldn't call it 'prequel' because the entirety of the show is not going to take place before [The Walking Dead]. It will eventually form a path running concurrently." 

Earlier, AMC announced that the network ordered two consecutive seasons of the new "TWD" companion series after its pilot episode was shot in Los Angeles early this year. But in spring and summer, the production will head to Vancouver to continue filming. 

According to the report posted by Season Two, the production for the series may begin in the first days of April in Canada so that it can be launched this summer to fill in the gap between seasons 5 and 6 of "The Walking Dead." 

The first season of the soon-to-be released "TWD" spinoff will feature six episodes and will take off from the start of the outbreak. The series will be based in Los Angeles, and will feature new characters that were never seen before in the original horror drama. 

The upcoming "The Walking Dead" spinoff will star Cliff Curtis as the male lead character named Sean Cabrera, Kim Dickens as Miranda, Frank Dillane as Nick, and Alycia Debnam-Carey as Ashley.
