"The Winds of Winter" has been a long time coming and to this date there is no official release schedule for the book. However, author George R.R. Martin has confirmed via his official live journal, Not a Blog, that he will be giving fans a short preview of the book during his attendance at this year's MystiCon event.

Martin skipped out on all the conventions and major events in 2015 in order to finish the book but as previously reported, the book is still not finished in time for it to release prior to the premiere of "Game of Thrones" season 6, a point Martin stated in his live journal. 

However, in his latest post, Martin explains that he is tired and stressed and needs to attend a convention sometime soon to relax a little bit.

"Truth be told, I need a good con just about now. I am tired and I am stressed, and I am so so so sick of the toxic rancor that more and more seems to characterize the Internet," the author stated. "So let's raise a few glasses and have a few laughs at MystiCon, and try to remember why we love science fiction, fandom, and each other."

When asked in the comments section if he would be reading passages from "The Winds of Winter" and "Fire and Blood," the accompaniment book to the main series which told the history of the Targaryen family, Martin immediately replied by stating that was exactly the plan.

With enough material to present to the audience, it is likely that Martin has nearly completed the book but there are still many chapters to complete and the book will still need to go through the publication process for several months before it is ready to hit store shelves, indicating it will be out late this year or early next year, possibly before "Game of Thrones" season 7 premieres.
