As the long wait continues for "The Winds of Winter," author George R.R. Martin drops another bombshell about the plot and what it means for the mega-successful series "Game of Thrones." During an interview with IGN, the novelist confirmed that there will be a big twist in the sixth "A Song of Ice and Fire" book.

"It involves a dead character, one of whom is dead on the show but not dead in the books," Martin revealed without ado. "So the show can't do this unfortunately, because they have killed a character that I have not killed," he went on to say.

While this bombshell should unsurprisingly send fans to detective mode, Martin knows that this tease would not make it easier for fans to come to a conclusion since there are still 15 characters on "Game of Thrones" who are still very much alive in "The Winds of Winter."

With no details as to who the other characters involved are, it looks like this twist will be kept a secret until "The Winds of Winter" hits the shelves. The most recent goner in HBO's version of Westeros in "Game of Thrones" is Stannis Baratheon.

Martin himself even took to his website called Not A Blog that the character is "alive, beyond a doubt" in the books. With his enthusiasm to clarify Stannis's situation in the saga, maybe Martin has something big cooked up for the character.

As for when "The Winds of Winter" will be out, Martin has yet to provide details on that one. After admitting that he is a "slow writer" and that he's "always been" so, he said that the book is still not done.

As what he said last time, the highly anticipated and most awaited book won't see the light of day prior to the premiere of "Game of Thrones" season 6 in April.
