'The Witcher 3: Hearts of Stone' expansion DLC release date arrives

The Witcher III: Wild Hunt Season PassCDProjektRed

The first major expansion pack DLC for "The Witcher 3," titled "Hearts of Stone," will release this Oct. 13. It will be available for free for those who previously purchased the Expansion Pass. The Expansion Pass costs $25 and gives players the "Hearts of Stone" DLC and the "Blood and Wine" DLC when it releases in 2016.

Those without the Expansion Pass can purchase the DLC digitally for $9.99 or the physical retail version for $19.99.

However, the digital release has a pre-release discount that offers the game for only $8.49. The discounted price is offered on digital stores such as GOG, Steam and on the Playstation Store. This offers ends at 3 p.m., Oct. 13. Following the game's release, the digital version will revert back to its $9.99 tag price.

The physical retail version comes with a few extra bonuses: 2 decks of Gwent cards (which is based on the popular card game in "The Witcher 3"), an instruction manual to teach players how Gwent card games are played, and the digital download code to get the DLC content itself.

Players who purchased the Expansion Pass or the digital copy individually can still get their Gwent cards via RedeemGwent.com. The cards come in limited supply so it is advisable for players to get their cards as soon as possible.

"The Witcher 3: Hearts of Stone" DLC will offer more than ten hours of gameplay, new items, a new Runesword system and new quests, furthering the story of the main campaign. The game does require players to be at least level 30 in order to access the DLC's content since the DLC is designed for those who have already completed the game.

"Step once again into the shoes of Geralt of Rivia, a professional monster slayer, now hired to defeat a ruthless bandit captain, Olgierd von Everec, a man who possesses the power of immortality," reads the game's official description.
