'The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt' infinite money glitch: what to know

An exploit in the newly-released "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" video game can give players an almost unlimited supply of Crowns or in-game money.

According to YouTube user WhatsMyGame, players who come to Nilfgaard for the first time can easily gain more Crowns by slaying cows over and over again. This will work especially for low-level players, as they run the risk of dying when they try to take Crowns through monster hunting or if come across high-level entities. Killing bovines, on the other hand, can be done with a level as low as a newbie.

Players need to find cows to slaughter, such as those found in the White Orchard. After killing off the cows, players need to harvest the bovine hides and hoard them for selling. Bovine hides will sell for 27 gold Crowns. Mediating for two hours would make the cows spawn again on the same location, so players would have an almost unlimited supply of Crowns by killing the cows over and over.

There are some reported drawbacks, though. The carcasses won't disappear, and killing off such animals will have a bearing on the conscience of the player's character Geralt. In addition, the shopkeeper on the locale only has limited money to spend on the hides, and too much cow leather will leave the players with a fluffed out inventory.

However, this drawback can easily be managed by just going to other areas and selling the hides to other shopkeepers.

Speaking about the exploit, developer CD Projekt Red issued a statement to GameSpot, playing along via an in-game character.

Essentially, the developer said, "Sustained cow slaughter may influence local economy and job market by allowing an unnaturally fast accumulation of goods, and also produces an undesirable effect of breaking gamer immersion."

"The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" was released on May 19 for current-gen consoles and PC.
