In the next episode of "The X-Files," Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully investigate the phenomenon known as The Mandela Effect.

The trailer and promotional photos of the upcoming installment, which is titled "The Lost Art of Forehead Sweat," were just recently released, and they show Mulder and Scully searching for answers to something that has yet to be made known. They appear to ask for help from a man by the name of Reggie Something (Brian Huskey), who meets them at an undisclosed car park. He then shows the agents something on his phone, and it appears to intrigue them.

Apparently, they are investigating a case involving the mysterious Mandela Effect. This is the strange phenomenon where certain groups of people remember aspects of the past differently from the majority of the population. In effect, they seem to have passed through an alternate timeline and experienced a different set of events.

Mulder and Scully plan to get to the bottom of this and encounter another mysterious person along the way, by the name of Dr. They (Stuart Margolin). The haggard-looking individual meets the agents at a park and tells Mulder, "You're dead."

The agent looks a bit surprised but realizes that he has encountered worse. In their investigation into the Mandela Effect, Mulder and Scully appear to have stumbled upon the actual origins of the X-Files. It remains to be seen if they have any merit.

In the last episode, the agents investigated a murder where witnesses said that the victim claimed he saw his double stalking him. Mulder and Scully traced the murder to a pair of psychic twins who were able to conjure people's look-alikes and have them kill their victims. The spiteful twins died at the hands of each other's doubles.

"The X-Files" season 11 episode 4 will hit the airwaves on Wednesday, Jan. 24, at 8 p.m. EST on Fox.
