This week on "This Is Us," Randall (Sterling K. Brown) discovered a letter Rebecca (Mandy Moore) wrote to William (Ron Cephas Jones), while Kate (Chrissy Metz) ended her relationship with Toby (Chris Sullivan).

Kate told Toby that they needed to take a break as she wasn't happy and that she needed to get her weight under control. Toby asked Kate if she wants this more than she wants him, and as she cried, Toby said that it looks like she has made up her mind.

Randall woke up bright and early, excited to start the Thanksgiving preparations with his family. Later, he drove all the way to Philadelphia to get some recordings that William and his friends made during past holidays, and Randall told Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson) that he wanted to go the extra mile because this might be his father's last Thanksgiving. While at William's apartment, Randall found a letter from Rebecca to William written years ago, telling him that he cannot see Randall, but she's glad that he's doing much better.

At the dinner table, a very emotional Randall confronted his mother about the letter, saying that after all this time, she kept him away from his biological father. With the entire family staring at him, a tearful Randall got up from the table and walked away, and just then, Kate walked in and announced that she has decided to have gastric bypass surgery.

Next week, in the episode titled "The Trip," the Big Three head to the family's cabin to get away after their chaotic family Thanksgiving. A very angry Randall finds comfort and explanation from his father, Jack (Milo Ventimiglia).

In the promo for the episode, Randall asks William when was the first time that he met his adoptive mother, and William told him that it was when she took him home from the hospital. Later, Randall tells Rebecca that he trusted her more than anyone before walking away.

In a flashback, a 9-year-old Randall (Lonnie Chavis) approaches an African-American couple at the grocery, and when Jack asked him what he's doing, Randall said, "They could be my birth parents." Later, Jack tells Rebecca that maybe they should find the people who gave Randall up.

At the cabin, Randall looks up and sees his father.

"Hey son," says Jack, as Randall stares open-mouthed at what appears to be his father's ghost.

"This Is Us" airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
