'This Is Us' season 2 episode 12 spoilers: Randall explores William's past

In the next episode of "This Is Us," Randall Pearson (Sterling K. Brown) explores his biological father William's (Ron Cephas Jones) past.

The trailer and promotional photos for the upcoming installment, which is titled "Clooney," were released just recently, and they show Randall looking through some old books of William's and discovering that he had written a number of poems. He realizes how heartfelt some of the poems are and shares them with his wife Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson), who is somewhat supportive of him digging into William's life.

However, she says to him with concern, "Recently, it feels like you are somewhere in outer space." It seems Randall may be growing more distant towards his wife, which is of great concern to her. It has come to a point where Randall appears to be more preoccupied with getting to know his estranged father.

Meanwhile, Randall's brother Kevin (Justin Hartley) appears to be having some doubts about Miguel Rivas (Jon Huertas), his mom Rebecca's (Mandy Moore) second husband. The couple is at home and having a sweet time together on the couch when she gets up to go to the kitchen for a while. Kevin comes down and sees Miguel, which prompts him to ask a delicate question. "Were you in love with my mom when my dad was alive?" he says to him. Miguel is taken aback and speechless.

In the last episode, Kevin was the focus of a therapy session with Rebecca, Randall, and Kate (Chrissy Metz). Apparently, at that point, he felt that he became an addict because he had issues with his mom treating Randall as her favorite child. However, the session ended up with them arguing with one another.

"This is Us" season 2 episode 12 will hit the airwaves on Tuesday, Jan. 16, at 9 p.m. EST on NBC.
